How does barcode reader work

Let us first know how barcodes are read and how barcodes are made. There are particular symbols in each barcode. The barcode is defined by the width and the height and also the spacing of the bars. The bars can represent a typical number an alphanumeric character which depends on the barcode symbolology. A barcode generally has a start bar and an end bar which are taken to be the start and end of the barcode. There is also an additional bar called the checksum bar. This is used to find out whether the barcode is correct and also ensures that the barcode is accurate.

The photo sensors inside the barcode scanners reads the codes and these are converted into electric pulses. Each bar strip is equal to a character and the barcode software can convert the pulses to an electrical text that is shown on a monitor. The process takes a few milliseconds and it is actually a very fast process.

Presently there are many types of models for the barcode scanners. The use of this barcode scanner depends a lot on the work environment and the industry type. The examples are the portable models and the desktop models. One of the most used barcode scanner is wireless scanner. This depends a lot on the work environment and the industry type and they can transfer the data to the terminal within the range of the wireless. These are used in the warehouse industry and also where the barcode scanners can be scanned even at odd positions. It is also used where in the industries the goods are moved from one place to another. A wireless barcode scanner is much more efficient as it allows freedom of movement.
